Goals
The Youth Outdoor Participation Project has 7 goals that we try to achieve for every camper:
1.) Provide access to an educational outdoor experience
2.) Increase the knowledge base and awareness of the natural environment
3.) Create an environment where campers can gain self-esteem and self-confidence
4.) Encourage and develop leadership skills among older youth
5.) Establish trust amongst campers counselors and staff
6.) Support the building of positive relationships between peers, family and community
7.) Create a sense of respect and responsibility of one's self and community

Critical Issues
- The mission at HHC as stated is: "To provide educational and recreational programming that helps disadvantaged youth develop the life skills necessary to become self-reliant, productive members of their families, schools and communities." During a session at HHC, campers will receive instruction in art, swimming and archery. However, there is very little to no outdoor or environmental education. At HHC there is an opportunity for disadvantaged youth to obtain a unique experience, who otherwise do not have much interaction with the natural environment.
-The first goal of Y.O.P.P. is to provide youth with an educational outdoor experience. Through Y.O.P.P. programming we educate campers about the natural world locally and globally. Through Y.O.P.P. projects and activities, campers will develop a greater knowledge base and awareness for the environment. We can provide excellent environmental education at HHC, giving campers a more complete recreational and educational experience.
- Currently HHC uses Outdoor Wisconsin Leadership School on the first day of every session. On this day, each cabin will participate in team-building activities. After interviewing previous counselors, many state that O.W.L.S. day was the most difficult day. In many cases counselors believe O.W.L.S. activities created strife and conflict, in some cases the conflict would escalate and result in a camper being sent home. In most cases counselors believed that O.W.L.S. day was ineffective at bringing a cabin closer together, if not achieving the opposite of their intended goal.
- Y.O.P.P. programming recognizes and addresses two issues here. First, O.W.L.S. activities are catered towards a conglomerate of age groups, with no real direction. Secondly, activities lack the proper personalized attention needed for successful facilitation. Y.O.P.P. projects and activities are designed per age group, with intent to challenge campers at their pace and level. In addition Y.O.P.P. staff are required to stay with their assigned group throughout the entire session. This allows for them to gauge where each individual, and individual cabin is at physically, mentally and emotionally. With this information, staff
can create a more efficient and suitable environment for growth.
-HHC is a not-for profit organization, donations make up nearly the entire source of revenue. At the current time donations are exclusive to the Lake Geneva area. Naturally, camp image and word of mouth are essential to the success and continuation of HHC.
- Y.O.P.P. can contribute to the awareness of HHC and its mission. Through partnerships such as the Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy, Y.O.P.P. can not only create a good name for HHC, but also create awareness in the local community through action and involvement. Y.O.P.P. is always looking for partnerships to enhance the growth of HHC and its programs. Through Y.O.P.P. partnerships, HHC will be able to increase the area in which they fund-raise.
